Today, 3rd grade students in Mrs. Civitarese's class studied how gravity affects objects during their science class time. To help observe how gravity affects objects the students participated in Minute To Win It games including the cup stack, egg race, balloon in the air, and cookie face





VISD is participating in the Texas Education Agency's special education Differentiated Monitoring & Support process, and that includes a survey for anyone associated with the district -- parent, teacher, staff, and administrator. Thanksgiving is 6 weeks away, but it's not to early to start training for the VHS Turkey Trot!! The 5K Turkey Trot will be held on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28, at Lion Stadium. There will be a Kids' Fun Run that starts at 9 a.m., with the 5K Turkey Trot set to start at 9:15 a.m. The deadline to register and secure a t-shirt is Nov. 13. The event is sponsored by Texas Farm Bureau Insurance in Vernon. The event is hosted by the Vernon High School National Honor Society and Student Council. All proceeds from the event benefit VISD at-risk youth.


Our Vernon ISD Fall Break is officially underway. We hope everyone has a great loooong weekend and we can't wait to see everyone back in their classrooms on Tuesday!!

Fifth grade students who are running to be an officer on the VES Student Council gave their campaign speeches to the VES student body Friday morning. A few candidates included props including a science experiment, a puzzle, and confetti. Students will cast their vote this week. Those seeking offices include:

Vice President -- D'Angelo Galvan & Kylee Jones
Secretary -- Nillianna Hines
Treasurer -- Gavin Bayer, Aiden Hernandez & Braylee Knight











Due to next week being a short school because of our VISD Fall Break, we have adjusted our schedule for offering special ice cream treats. Our cafeteria will be selling ice cream treats to our 2nd and 3rd grade students on Tuesday, and to our 4th and 5th grade students on Wednesday. Parents, please take note of this change.

Next week Vernon ISD has a short school week. We will have classes Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, and then dismiss school for our Fall Break. Our Fall Break is from Oct. 17 thru Oct. 21. We hope everyone has a great, relaxing time during the time away from school, and we look forward to seeing everyone back on our campuses and in offices on Tuesday, Oct. 22.


A few special awards were handed out yesterday at our Child Nutrition Services monthly meeting. Candy Cox received the September Employee of the Month award, while campus monthly achievement honors went to Karina Lira, McCord; Carmela Fuentes, Vernon Elementary; Luisa Zambrano, Middle School; and Yirian Ramirez, High School.
Those recognized for having perfect attendance for September were: Renea Branin, Amelia Chavez; Candy Cox; Amelia Escobedo; Carmela Fuentes; Alejandra Haines; Dorothy Mathis; Faye Montes; Beth Newton, Emma Ochoa; Marguerita Ramirez; and Yirian Ramirez.


QUICK REMINDER -- Tomorrow is a Vernon ISD early release Friday for students.


The VHS Mini Cheerleader Clinic for 2nd grade thru 5th grade students will be held on Thursday, Oct. 24. The clinic will take place from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at D.O. Fulton Gym. Those students who take part in the clinic will then cheer with the VHS cheerleaders on the sideline during halftime of Friday night's game. The registration fee for the cheerleader clinic is $40. Forms and registration fees must be turned in at the student's school office by this Friday.


Receiving our Student of the Week honors for last week were: River Gilchrist, 2nd Grade; Mason Hollis, 3rd Grade; Brandon Bates, 4th Grade; and Nevaeh Adams, 5th Grade. Congratulations!! Outstanding!!!


Our VES 5th grade students are working hard this week in Social Studies as they wrap up their unit on the American Revolution. The students are working as journalists covering the Revolutionary War and bringing the latest news to the residents of the colonies.




Students in Ms. TiSierra White's 3rd grade class are currently working on writing letters in class. Recently a class parent provided donuts for all of the students in the class. As part of the lesson, and to show their appreciation, all the students wrote the parent thank you letters for providing the tasty treat.

October 2nd is School Custodian Appreciation Day and Vernon ISD has some great custodians who do an exceptional job!! We definitely appreciate their hard work behind the scenes to help VISD be the best it can be!!!


It's "Moonwalk Across the (Ponder) Lions" this Friday at the Lions Pride Pep Rally. It's Michael Jackson Day across the district, with teachers and students dressing up like the pop star. The Lions Pride Pep Rally will start at 1:30 p.m., this week. Also, the VHS Drill Team will perform to "Thriller" during halftime of the Ponder-Vernon district game Friday night.
