October is Principal Appreciation Month, and Vernon ISD is spotlighting all six of the principals in our district.
Leslie Powell is in her first full year of serving as a principal, having been named interim principal for Central and Shive Elementary schools in the spring of the 2022-23 school year. She was later selected as the principal for Vernon Elementary School.
This is Powell's 21st year in her education career, as she was a teacher for many years before being an assistant principal for a year. Her joy for working with children began while she was going to school and working part-time at the Methodist Mini School.
Powel enjoys being a principal because not only does she get to continue working with the students, but she also gets to work closer with members of the staff and help keep the school moving forward.
